Preparation Strategies and Tips for JEE Mains in one Month:
The notification of JEE mains 2023 has been announced by the NTA. The exam will be conducted in two sessions- January and April. It being the month of December, you are barely left with 4 weeks in hand for the first attempt. What’s going to help you ace the examination is a clear strategy and a good plan.
Since the examination is going to be held in two sessions, the first session being in January, it is quite obvious that your syllabus might be incomplete or you may have backlogs. The cherry on the cake, being your board exams and practicals. All conditions complement a stressful situation. But the silver lining is that this is obvious with other students as well. If your syllabus is incomplete, so is the case with others. If you are stressed, so are others. What you need to do here is to stop panicking and start planning.
1. TAKE THE FIRST MOVER ADVANTAGE- Incomplete syllabus and backlogs are the reality of every other student out there. If you worry about it you will end up losing your Golden attempt. Why am I calling it Golden is because of the fact that as per the analysis of the past trends, it has been found that the paper in Session 1 is comparatively easier than Session. You can get a good percentile just by focusing on some aspect.
2. DIVIDE and EXCEL– Divide your whole syllabus into three domains- Your Strong areas, Your weak areas and the areas in which you have a Moderate hold. Make a routine targeting them and you may follow the following table.
STRONG | MODERATE | WEAK |
Revise notes + PYQs + Chapter wise mock test | Revise notes + PYQs + Mock test | Revise notes + PYQs |
Achieve maximum accuracy here. | Analyze areas where you are getting stuck and work | Go through the standard questions. |
3. SUBJECT REVISION ROUTINE– There are certain topics in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics which are interrelated. Club them up, while revising and put them in the same slot in your routine. For example- if you are revising Modern Physics, revise Structure of Atom of Chemistry on the same day. Similarly, revise Thermodynamics of Physics and Chemistry in consecutive days.
Always focus on doing Complete revision of the unit, never leave anything in between, you never know from where the question may be asked.
Chapters that appear not so important and have lesser weightage can be clubbed and kept for revision in a single day. For example, Chapters in chemistry, like Surface Chemistry, Polymers, Biomolecules, Chemistry in Everyday life, Environmental Chemistry can be revised in a single day. Their cumulative weightage is more than the other important topic, say Mole Concept.
4. RATIO OF THEORY AND QUESTIONS– Segments like Physical Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics demands more question solving than theory. Follow- 25/75 strategy for them. Devote 25% of time in theory while 75% in practicing questions. Organic Chemistry demands 50/50 strategy– devote equal time for both theory and question solving. Inorganic Chemistry requires 75/25 strategy, i.e., 75% focus should be given on theory while you just need to devote 25% time on question solving. For inorganic chemistry, NCERT is your everything, read each and every line thoroughly and revise from the same.
5. SLOT REVISION– I always stress upon training your brain. The exam is going to be conducted in two shifts i.e., 9 am -12 noon and 3 pm -6 pm. Develop a habit of sitting and studying at these slots. To achieve maximum activity of your brain, you just have to give mock tests and solve PYQs and analyze them. Sleeping early and waking up early will train your body and brain to remain active for longer hours.
6. ONE WEEK BEFORE EXAMS– Do not study anything new. Just revise, give mocks and relax. Sleep properly and maintain a good diet.
Team Narayana wishes you all the very best for your exams.
